The Firearms Policy is established to promote the safety, security, and peace of all individuals on the premises of Grace Redeemer Community Church. This policy prioritizes responsible firearm ownership, minimizes risks of accidental discharge or mishandling, and ensures a welcoming environment free from visible or unsecured weapons. All individuals entering the Premises agree to comply with this policy as a condition of entry.
Prohibition on Open Carry – Open carry of any firearm (handgun or long gun) is strictly prohibited on the Premises. This includes visible holsters, slings, or any display of a firearm outside of concealed clothing or a secured container. Signs pursuant to Texas Penal Code § 30.07 will be posted at all property entrances to enforce this prohibition.
Secure Storage and Transport Requirements – All firearms on the Premises must be:
Holstered in a secure, body-worn holster that covers the trigger guard and prevents accidental discharge.
Equipped with a trigger lock or cable lock when not actively holstered.
Or, stored in a locking compartment, such as a dedicated firearm purse, bag, or case with a secure closure mechanism (e.g., zipper lock or biometric safe). Firearms left unattended (e.g., in vehicles) must be secured in a locked glove box, trunk, or console to prevent unauthorized access.
Pocket Carry Restrictions – If a firearm is carried in a pocket (within or without a holster):
The owner's hand must remain completely outside the pocket at all times, except during an Emergency requiring immediate access and use of the firearm.
Pocket carry without a holster is strongly discouraged; a proper belt or body holster is preferred for safety.
No Handling Outside of Emergencies – Firearms may not be handled, drawn, displayed, loaded/unloaded, or manipulated in any way on the Premises except in response to an Emergency. This includes:
No cleaning, inspecting, or demonstrating firearms.
No passing firearms between individuals.
No adjustments to holsters or locks during services, events, or normal activities.
